Man Sitting in Chair on Sunday Concert Series - 2017-05-21 - 7:00pm
Man Sitting in Chair on Sunday Concert Series At Hyde Park Theatre
The husband and wife singing duo of Gary & Donna will be hosting a four-concert series on Sundays beginning May 21. Each concert also features a special guest artist. Gary Frank Taylor, a classical guitar player, has been writing songs since he was 15 and Donna has been singing his songs with him since they were 17. At each concert, Gary will play some of his trademark classical-jazz-pop arrangements and Gary & Donna will sing some of his original songs as well as covers of some of their favorite songs.
7 p.m. Sunday, May 21: Special Guest Erik Hokkanen
World-Class Fiddler and Surf Guitar Master Erik Hokkanen is a three-time winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival "Instrumentalist of the Year" award (1993-1995) and was inducted into the Kerrville Festival’s Hall of Fame in 1996. That same year, John Travolta danced to Erik’s fiddle music at Gruene Hall in the movie
Michael.
Shortly after moving to Austin, Erik joined Gary P. Nunn’s band and played with him for several years. Since then, he has fronted his own band as well and has also played with many other great musicians over the years. Erik leads a dynamite trio with virtuoso Will Webster on guitar and super upright bass man Tyler Lambourne. They have got to be the best trio in town! You won’t want to miss this show. Erik is an incredible musician and an Austin treasure!

7pm, Sunday June 11: Special Guests Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies
Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies is an Austin-based collection of talent and artistry that embodies the very essence of the hot jazz and swing music prevalent from the 1910-1940’s. The band is not a retrospective, sentimental group that longs for days gone by, but a spontaneous and passionate group that celebrates the sheer joy and treasures of living through song for the enjoyment of everyone. Each Aunt Ruby’s Sweet Jazz Babies performance is a family-oriented event filled with dancing, romance, educated humor, and cosmopolitan sophistication.
